SDFL U-14D1: Cabinteely FC 2-0 Beech Park FC
Earlier today, on a bright spring morning with Kilbogget Park packed to the rafters for the Seapoint RC blitz, Cabinteely’s SDFL U-14D1s continued their good form in the league with a hard-fought 2-0 victory against a quality Beech Park FC team.
Cabo, blessed with their full quota of eighteen great players and in their smart-looking away kit for the game, started really well. Both teams tried to play passing football in the permanently windswept Kilbogget Park.
Cabinteely took the lead with a well-struck Ciarán K free kick. It stayed 1-0 until half-time with Cabo’s strong squad coming to the fore as substitutes were continually made.
In the second half, with the wind behind Beech Park, the home defence performed like lions and, with a bit of luck from the woodwork, Cabinteely kept Beech Park’s attack at bay.
This included Conor ‘Mr. Penalty Save’ O’K doing his usual party trick of saving a penalty with a wonderful one-handed save!
Cabinteely, with the help of a strong midfield performance and rotating strikers began to get on top. This led to a brilliant touch and finish by Seán D to make the score 2-0, which is the way the game finished.
Mick, Paul and Hugh would like to thank every player (Alex, Aaron, David, Conor G, Conor O’K, Danny, Finn, Kevin, Daniel, Killian O’S, Cillian D, Christian, Hugo, Jack, Ciarán, Seán, Christopher, and Matthew) on the team for their excellent efforts today and throughout this season to continue to be near the top of the D1 league table after being promoted as D2 champions last year.
They’d all also like to thank all parents and guardians for the ever-reliable support and encouragement on the sideline. It’s great to say that the squad still has so much to anticipate at this point in the season, including a cup final in two weeks.

On this showing, this group’s season is far from over!
