U-14 Challenge: Cabinteely FC 5-0 Wexford League Emerging Talent squad
On a beautiful New Year’s Eve morning our DDSL U-14 Premiers took on the Wexford League Emerging Talent U-14 Squad in an enjoyable and entertaining year-end challenge match.

Cabo started brightly, passing sharply and applying pressure when not in possession of the ball.

The Wexford team fought and pressed hard, playing the ball on the ground and using every inch of the pitch but Cabo’s back four of Seán, Kieran, Ben and Stephen were well up for it, snuffed out every attack and transferred the ball well from defence to attack with some nice passing to set up our midfield of Owen, Liam, Alex and Killian who in turn set strikers JJ and Darragh free to attack the Wexford goal.

With such good play and enthusiasm it wasn’t long before the breakthrough came with a nice through ball played to Darragh who used his new-found burst of pace to take the ball past the Wexford defence and place it in the bottom right corner. 1-0 to Cabo!

Such was the quality and pace of the game that the score stayed at 1-0 until half-time (40 minute halves).

The second half started with Robert replacing Darragh who got an accidental elbow to an already sore throat.

The Wexford boys threw themselves into the match, trying to find that elusive equaliser, but our boys were up to the task with ‘keeper Morgan having another great game in goal.

This left some space for our boys to play in behind the Wexford defence; Seán took his chance and pounced, scoring a hat-trick in quick succession.

Wexford were disheartened but battled on nonetheless, still trying to break down our defence when a recovered Darragh, back on for Seán, broke down the left and crossed to the oncoming JJ who neatly placed the ball home. 5-0 to Cabo, but the scoreline flattered Cabo as the Wexford team had put up a mighty fight.

Do enjoy a few photos during the game (also in the slide show below).

Well done to Tony, Paul and all the lads for a great display of football!
