DDSL U-15 Premier 1: Cabinteely FC 5-0 St. Kevin’s Boys FC
Last Saturday our DDSL U-15 Premiers went into this game knowing that three points would secure second place in the league for 2017.

For the first ten minutes of the encounter there wasn’t much to choose between the two teams, with both sides creating chances. Cabinteely slowly began to get on top with Oran starting to cause problems for St. Kevin’s Boys FC’s back four.

A lovely measured through ball by Jack Lundy put Oran through 1 v 1 with the visitors’ ‘keeper. Unfortunately, he scuffed his shot just wide of the post. It didn’t take long though for Cabo to score. After some great build-up play the ball found its way to Oran in the box and he turned beautifully to calmly slot the ball beyond the Kevins’ ‘keeper.

After excellent build-up play through defence, midfield and attack, Cabo’s second soon followed. Sam fed Billy out wide on the right and his first-time cross was met by Oran with a clipped shot that looped over the ‘keeper.

Soon after, Oran completed his hat-trick when Paddy found Luke who played in Oran in the left channel behind the Kevins’ defenders and he calmly delivered a cool finish under the ‘keeper. So Cabo went into half-time 3-0 up.

Cabo introduced Saul at half-time and he almost made an immediate impact by rounding the ‘keeper. Unfortunately, the angle was too much. The Cabo lads were by now playing some champagne football 😄⚽️ and the fourth goal soon came when Oggi scored the goal of the game; he beat two players before sending a 25-yard pile driver into the roof of the net.

Kevin’s had no answer and Jamie, Jack Doran and Charlie made good defending look easy with another clean sheet. The fifth goal came with five minutes to go. The ball was played out wide to Jack Lundy; he looked up and saw the ‘keeper off his line and, with his left foot, he found the top corner. This was the complete performance by Cabo. This team and manager Dave Knight are an absolute credit to the club!

The team has already gone through to the last 32 of the SFAI U-16 All-Ireland Cup and is also into the semi-final of the DDSL Regional Premier Cup. The club is awaiting confirmation from the DDSL of the team finishing in runners-up position in the league.

If all is confirmed, this will be the first time in the club’s history that a Cabo team has finished in the top two in the DDSL Premier Division!

An excellent season for this group – well done to all concerned.
