Girls do well in tough training match
Well done to Cabinteely FC players Courtney Maguire and Orla Prendergast and former players Robyn Bolger and Bobbi Downer (both now with UCD Waves FC) who represented Ireland U-16 Ladies in a training camp challenge game against Chelsea FC U-16s in Chealsea’s training ground in Cobham, London this week.

A cold night in Chelsea with heavy wind and rain didn’t stop two top teams playing total football. Courtney Maguire and Robyn Bolger started and played the first half. Courtney made some great saves and Robyn showed her skillful attacking play down the right.

With the windy conditions, the ball was played on the ground with both sides showing skill beyond their years. Two clinical finishes from Blessing and Lauren saw Ireland leading 2-0 at half-time.

Bobbi and Orla then came on for the second half. Chelsea found another gear and scored two long-range goals to bring the game back level.

Bobbi made some of her trademark tough tackles and Orla made some great runs on and off the ball before setting up Blessing to score the winner. It was a fantastic display of football in bad conditions. The future of girls/ladies football is looking bright.

The result stood at Chelsea FC 2-3 Republic of Ireland

From all in Cabo, well done to the girls and their teammates on a great performance!
