U-11 Paul Fitzgerald Cup: Malahide United FC 0-1 Cabinteely FC
Congratulations to our DDSL U-11 Sunday A team that made it to final of the DDSL Paul Fitzgerald Cup after beating a very strong Malahide United AFC team last evening. The Cabo lads were cheered on in Gannon Park for the midweek semi-final by great travelling support – thanks to one and all.
In a very tight match that saw both teams play some great football, Cabinteely just edged it, winning 1-0 thanks to a brilliant first-half goal scored by Jorge Nash when he showed great skill to beat the defence and finish in a composed manner past the onrushing goalkeeper.
Nash nearly had a second later on in the match but after rounding the goalkeeper saw his shot from a tight angle cleared off the line.
On a warm evening, the Cabo lads had to put in a big shift to book their place in the final. Goalkeeper Joe Collins notched up his seventh clean sheet of the season after just twelve games with a typically assured performance. He received great protection throughout the game, thanks to fine defending from both Ben Lawler and Ross Young.
Philip Cooney, Briain Waters and Luca Ryan all worked tirelessly on the wings for Cabinteely and created lots of chances. Captain Rhys Knight and Aidan Kane caused problems for Malahide all evening with some fantastic passing and movement.
These U-11s will be looking to follow in the footsteps of our current U-12s who took this trophy home last season. Cabinteely will face the winner of the other semi-final, involving St. Josephs Boys AFC and Peamount United FC, in the final in the AUL Complex on a date yet to be decided.
Results on way to the final:
– Cabinteely FC 3-0 St. Francis FC (Aidan Kane, Rhys Knight, Luca Ryan)
– Shamrock Rovers FC 1-2 Cabinteely FC (Aidan Kane, Eric Schütte)
– Cabinteely FC 3-0 Terenure Rangers FC (Eric Schütte, Philip Cooney x2)
– Malahide United AFC 0-1 Cabinteely FC (Jorge Nash)
