Major change in Dublin football and some calendar dates for you
The sharp-eyed amongst you will probably have noticed by now that, for the first time since the club’s foundation as a ‘schoolboy’ club, in 1967, that we have no mention of the South Dublin Football League (SDFL) on our fixtures list!

Yes, it’s true – this has come about as a result of co-operation between the DDSL and SDFL, as you may read on the former’s website.

As a result of this co-operation, our last remaining SDFL team, managed by Anthony Reddin, has now become the DDSL U-16Cs for 2019. Best of luck to them in their new guise.

It’s not so long ago (twenty years to be precise) that the club, traditionally an SDFL-only one, first applied to have a team in the DDSL for the express purpose of providing a higher standard of football for one particularly successful club team at that time.

Your scribe can remember well when this proposal was first put to members by the then committee. It sparked quite a debate but was the first step on a journey that has taken us all the way to the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland! Not bad going for a neighbourhood club!

Having mentioned the League of Ireland, see below for some dates pertaining (for the underage teams, scroll down to Group 4 in each age group):

Further information on any of the above may be obtained from Pat Costello, Club Secretary and General Manager, on 087 638 9985 or by email.

That’s a long way to have travelled over the last twenty years!
